For several years, Numbas has been used at Newcastle University in a wide range of applications, from transition and formative material to class tests and assignments. Whilst most summative use has previously been in-course assessment, the Covid-19 pandemic precipitated the use of Numbas for exams across several STEM subjects. This talk will focus on the use of Numbas for pass/fail exams in eight stage one modules in the School of Mathematics, Statistics & Physics, including the motivation for the format, the steps taken to prepare the assessments, and the procedures and new developments that helped to facilitate them.
